Henry Johnson was a member of the 369th Infantry Regiment, famously known as the Harlem Hellfighters, during World War I. Johnson, in particular, became a hero when he single-handedly fought off a German raiding party, saving his fellow soldier and earning the Croix de Guerre, France’s highest military honor. Doris “Dorie” Miller: Pearl Harbor Hero

Doris “Dorie” Miller was a mess attendant in the U.S. Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
